Zechariah 7:4-6
Then the word of the LORD Almighty came to me: “Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted? And when you were eating and drinking, were you not just feasting for yourselves?’ “

Sometimes, organized religion introduces many delusions in their teachings in order to glamorize many things that should really not be glamorized too much.  For instance, suffering, sacrifice and even fasting. Such acts can sometimes blur real issues and sanitize or deodorize unrighteousness.

There is a very thin line between praising God for his good deeds and displaying the good things we have para purihin ng tao. Sino ang tunay na audience natin?

PROTEKTADO

Psalm 91:14
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”

Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. Tanong siguro ng mga leon, “What’s for lunch?”

How can lions devour you when the Lord sends an angel to take away their appetite? If you’re under the protection of the living God, even though you’re thrown into the lions’ den, you are safe there. Safety is not the absence of danger; it is the presence of God. If God is present in our life, we’re safe even though we are thrown into the lions’ den.

Iba’t iba ang dahilan kaya namamatay ang tao. Siempre lumilitaw ang human side natin at natatakot tayo. The Lord holds the present, the past and the future in his hands so we can trust him in this matter.

But remember, the moment our spirit separates from the body we are in the presence of the Lord. This is a wonderful privilege.

POTENTIALS

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Dahil nakikipag-contest with other fellow servants? Hindi marunong mag-sorry? Hindi marunong tumanggap ng pagkakamali? Hindi marunong magpakumbaba?

What happens to people who are ruled by pride? The potential does not happen. The piece of rock remains a piece of rock. You need the Lord as sculptor to curve you into what you should become.

Parang laging kawawa.” But you know why the Lord wants us humble? Humble people are able to keep friends. Proud people are not able to make or keep friends. Proud people are not able to maintain and keep ministry because they cannot work with their fellow workers. Proud people cannot become team workers.

Satan wants us proud because he wants us alone and isolated. Because if we are alone, mas madali nya tayong dayain at palungkutin. Kasi wala tayong support from other people. Kaya kapag humble ka, winner ka. People will be around you. You will be loved and cared for.

PILIIN

1 Timothy 6:6-7
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

Life is a constant search and not too many people have the capacity or the potential to be contented. One way to find contentment is to have everything that one wants. This is a very tall order because it’s impossible to have everything that one wants. We have unlimited wants but limited powers. Also, more than one person is interested in the same thing.

The way to contentment is also perilous. Masyadong delikado yun because the acquisition of things, status or other desires is vey competitive. Parang theatrical competition yan. Nag-aagawan tayo for the same star. It is perilous because it can deceive man into pettiness and narrow-mindedness. People can become obsessed with their desires and turn out very oppressive. Their choices, activities and even vocabulary become limited.

Kaya nga dapat maging maingat tayo with the things that we love because these very things can enslave us. Even with our possessions. Let’s not get too attached to what we have kasi hindi naman talaga natin madadala yan e.

ON AND OFF

Ephesians 4:22-24
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

The development of godly character entails putting on and putting off character traits. Merong on at merong off.

Put off falsehood. Pag-isipan kung suot pa nyo ang kasinungalingan. Kung suot pa ay hubarin daw. Put off stealing.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Pinagtatrabahuhan yan. Remember that the power comes from God, but the labor is ours.

Some Christians emphasize only the putting off of the negative traits, pero hindi naman pinu-put on ang positive traits. It’s only one-half good when you put off the negative things, but don’t do the good things. May Christians naman who put on the good things, but they don’t put off the negative things. Kaya magulo ang timplada nito. Remember to put off what should be put off, and to put on what should be put on.
