WONDER WOMEN

Mark 15:40-42

Some women were looking on from a distance. They had come with Jesus to Jerusalem. But even before this, they had been his followers and had helped him while he was in Galilee. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of the younger James and Joseph were two of these women. Salome was also one of them.

Jesus fellowshiped and sided with women. Noong nagsabi si Martha kay Jesus na tulungan siya ni Mary sa kusina, hindi talaga malaking issue ang hindi pagtulong ni Mary kundi yung nakaupo siya na kababaeng tao sa paanan ni Hesus at nakikinig sa mga pagtuturo na tila tine-train siyang maging alagad. Martha politely reminded Jesus of where Mary should be. “Hindi nyo ba papatulungin ang kapatid kong babae na yan sa kusina?” But the Lord said, “She has chosen the better portion”– to sit at his feet and learn like a man. Noong araw, lalaki lang ang mga tagasunod ng sinumang religious leader o itinerant preacher. But this time, the Lord was opening the door to women. He was saying, “Women are welcome to fellowship with us, to learn with us, and, if they like, to be trained.”

Many women were in Jesus’ entourage. At sinabi dito, inaalagaan nila ang mga pangangailangan ng Panginoon at ng mga disciples habang may healing, teaching and preaching sila. Kaya noong napako ang Panginoong Hesus sa Jerusalem, ang naiwan sa bundok ng Kalbaryo ay mga kababaihang sumunud-sunod sa kanya. Ipinakita ng Panginoon na women were welcome in the company of men, especially in ministry. We must value women who do the work of the Lord.
