2 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)

To keep me from becoming conceited…there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me.

Hindi sinabi kung ano yung “thorn in my flesh,” pero ayon kay Paul, “Para iwasang maging mayabang ako, binigyan ako ng Dios ng isang kalagayang laging magpapahirap ng buhay ko. Ilang beses kong idinalangin sa Dios na tanggalin ito, pero hindi nya tinanggal kaya tatanggapin ko na lang.” Bakit hinayaan ng Dios, halimbawa, na matadtad ka ng peklat? Baka kung ang kinis ng balat mo, ipaghampasan mo yang mga legs mo sa lahat ng sulok ng lungsod. Mabuti na yung walang natutukso sa iyo. Hindi ka napapariwara. Kaysa sa pinaghahangaran ka ng lahat ng lasing na dumadaan at napapahamak ka.

Mayroon tayong mga limitasyong inirereklamo sa Dios, “Bakit nyo ako ginawang ganito? Hindi nyo yata ako mahal.” Mahal ka nya kaya nilagyan ka ng limitasyon. At nilinaw sa atin yan ni Paul: para hindi siya yumabang, binigyan siya ng kapintasan o kahinaan. Inililigtas ang ating espiritu sa mga mas delikadong panganib pa. Marunong ang Dios.

People with great gifts, talents and powers have built-in weaknesses that serve as their protection. May fuse ang bahay at may circuit breaker ang building para kapag mayroong maling lakas ng kuryenteng pumasok at baka masunog ang bahay o building ay magti-trip yung fuse. Hindi nya papadaanin yung kuryente. Ganun din tayong mga tao. Mayroong hangganan ang kakayahan. Nilikha ng Dios na may ganung limitasyon. Kaya huwag tayong magdaramdam. Sabi ni Paul, “Sa ikabubuti ko ito dahil mahal ako ng Dios.” Tanggapin natin ito at maging mapagpasalamat.

John 9:1-3

As Jesus walked along, he saw a man who had been blind since birth. Jesus’ disciples asked, “Teacher, why was this man born blind? Was it because he or his parents sinned?” “No, it wasn’t!” Jesus answered. “But because of his blindness, you will see God work a miracle for him.”

Mahirap mapuwing, lalo pag mabulag at total yung blindness from birth, which was considered incurable. Tinanong tuloy, “Who sinned?” We will notice here that physical illness is blamed on spiritual deficiency. And Jesus gave a baffling answer. Sabi nya, “Hindi siya o ang kanyang magulang ang nagkasala dito.” So the widely held belief was disproven na pagka mayroong sakit, may kasalanan. O pag nagkaroon ng kasalanan, magkakaroon ng sakit. The very terrible condition was no one’s fault, sabi ng Panginoon. Lalong mahiwaga and sabi nya–the man’s condition was to serve a divine purpose.

Hindi komo may sakit ang isang tao, may problema, nalugi, nasunugan, iisipin mo agad, “Siguro may kasalanan.” Baka mamaya may inuusig tayong very righteous person tulad ng nangyari kay Job. May problema na nga, sisisihin mo pa. Don’t always moralize. Look for the godly use for your weakness, your illness, your disability, and pray for deliverance. At kung ikaw si Job na dumaraan sa isang pagsubok as an exhibit of God’s wisdom and dispensation, pray that it ends soon so that you can get on with your life after you have served the divine purpose for God’s agenda. At kahit mahirap maintindihan, magpasalamat tayo na tayo’y pinili at hinirang ng Dios na maging kasangkapan kahit man lang para maging Exhibit A ng kanyang kaso o argument.

Hebrews 2:18

And now that Jesus has suffered and was tempted, he can help anyone else who is tempted.

Kanya-kanya tayo ng dala sa buhay. Kung minsan, sobrang bigat, kung minsan hindi masyado. Pana-panahon. Pag dumarating tayo sa hirap, nate-tempt tayo na tumalon sa ilog, maglaslas ng pulso, uminom ng lason, mag-drugs, maglasing, gumawa ng something crazy just to get out of our problem. Remember that Jesus went through all kinds of temptations so he understands your situation now, and your great help comes from him. Lumapit kay Hesus at magpatulong sa kanya.

Huwag mong sabihin, “Hindi ko deserve ito! Bakit ako nahihirapan?” Jesus never deserved Gethsemane, but he went through it. At bilang mga anak ng Panginoon, dadaan tayo kung saan dumaan si Hesus para makarating tayo sa kanyang pinuntahan. Hindi natin kayang tumbasan ang hirap na dinanas nya, pero kahit man lang kamukha nun, dadanasin natin. Then we become instruments of God’s goodness to others.

Sabi nga ni Lord tungkol kay Paul, “He will suffer for my name’s sake.” Mayroon siyang pinapayagang dumaan sa dusa. At kung tayo’y nakaranas na ng hirap, we can minister to those who are going through that same difficulty that we have already graduated from. Lahat ng hirap na dinanas natin dapat maging dahilan para maging kakampi ng mga naghihirap sa kasalukuyan. Lalo kang magiging maunawain, mahabagin, mapagmahal, mapag-aruga, kung naranasan mo na yung ganung mga hirap. Let our experiences make us better, not bitter. Kung ang mga hirap nating dinaranas ay magiging qualification natin to help people, then even the difficulties we go through can be turned by God into blessings.

Luke 6:41

“You can see the speck in your friend’s eye. But you don’t notice the log in your own eye.”

Pag naiinis tayo, nag-iisip-isip ba tayo na maaaring nasa atin ang problema? Kadalasan, ang sasabihin natin, “Siya ang may problema kaya siya nakakainis.” Ngunit sinasabi ni Lord, “Bago mo tingnan yang puwing ng kapwa mo, tingnan mo yung troso sa mata mo” pag tayo ay magagalitin at maramdamin. Ayaw nyang sinisisi natin agad ang kapwa. Tingnan muna natin ang ating sarili.

        Nagkagalit ang asawa mo’t ang nanay mo.

“Bakit kayo nag-away?”

“Kasi ang nanay mo, aswang.”

May dalawang empleyadong nag-away at tinanong ng boss yung isa,

“Ba’t kayo nag-away?”

“Selfish po siya e. Proud siya.”

Laging mali yung iba. Pati sa ating mga kamag-anak, makikita ito. Wala pa akong nakitang magulang na nagsabing “Napasama yang barkadang yan dahil sa anak ko.” Laging “Napasama ang anak ko dahil sa barkadang yan.” Yun din ang sinasabi ng ibang nanay. “Napasama yung anak ko dahil sumama sa anak ni ganoon.” Si ganoon naman ang sasabihin, “Napasama ang anak ko dahil sumama sa anak nire.” Kumakampi tayo kaagad dahil siempre, laging kawawa ang mahal natin.

Ang turo ng Panginoon, “You hypocrite, look at yourself first.” Kung wala sa katotohanan yung mahal ninyo sa buhay, hindi ninyo siya dapat kampihan. Let us pay serious attention to the plank in our own eye, and, may I add, to the planks in the eyes of our loved ones. Let us look in the mirror and see the realities about ourselves. Let us really know ourselves from the point of view of God and His word.

Psalm 23:4

I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won’t be afraid. You are with me, and your shepherd’s rod makes me feel safe.

Kahit ano’ng pagsisikap ang gawin natin, hindi tayo makakalayo sa Dios. Sasabihin ng iba, “E bakit parang sa buhay, M-W-F lang yata nandun ang Dios?” Magdahan-dahan ka ng pagsasalita, that’s a lie. Saan ka puedeng pumunta at magtago na hindi alam ng Dios? Wala. Huwag padaya sa guni-guni. Huwag padaya sa imahinasyon. Huwag padaya sa emosyon. Nagmumukhang malayo ang Dios dahil siguro namumuhay tayo nang labag sa kanyang kalooban. Nagmumukhang malayo ang Dios kasi hindi tayo sumusunod. Mayroon tayong inaalagaang kasalanan o mayroon tayong ayaw isuko na bahagi ng ating buhay. Dinadaya tuloy tayo ng ating sariling emosyon na parang wala ang Dios. Pero emotion or no emotion, intellect or no intellect, with or without thoughts, with life or death, up or above, here or there, God is in us, and nothing can change that.

Know and understand this. Dumadaan ka man sa oras ng kahirapan, huwag kang matakot. Kasama mo ang Dios, alam nya ang iyong kalagayan. Dumadaan ka man sa hirap ng loob, sa hirap ng katawan, sa mga masisikip na kalagayan sa buhay na parang wala ka nang lusot, huwag kang matakot. Kasama mo ang Dios. Huwag magpalito sa emosyon. Manahimik. Dinggin ang tinig ng Dios na laging kumakausap sa atin bagama’t hindi natin laging dinidinig. At magkaroon tayo ng kapayapaan. Live securely. Live with great peace. Apply this in every aspect of your life. God is with you. Rest assured, you are loved.
