Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

Tuwing binabanggit ang Sodom at Gomorrah, laging nakakabit na kasalanan ng mga bayang ito ang sexual immorality. Natatakpan tuloy ang tunay na ikinapoot at ikinagalit ng Dios sa kanila: ang sobrang pagmamahal at pagpapasarap sa sarili, ang pagiging mapagmataas at ang hindi paglingap sa mga nangangailangan. Kataka-taka naman talaga na sobrang nabibigyan ng religious concerns ang mga kasalanang may kinalaman sa sex. Pero napapalusot natin yung imoralidad na may kinalaman sa pride, pagsisinungaling, pagnanakaw, panloloko, at paninirang-puri. Galit na galit tayo at laging nagngingitngit sa mga sexual sins, at bagama’t hindi naman talaga commendable ang mga ito, hindi naman laging yan ang pinagagalitan ng Dios. Marami pa.

Siguro, sa pagtatakip natin sa ating ibang mga kasalanan, nakakahanap na lang tayo ng ibang mapagdidiskitahan kaya ang lagi nating gustong batuhin ay yung mga taong katulad ng babae who was caught in adultery. Pero hindi ba dapat din na batuhin yung mga taong proud, mga tao na puedeng tumulong sa kapwa pero ipinagkakait ang kanilang mga tulong, nagmamataas, nandadaya sa negosyo, o yung nangsu-swindle?

Ano ang tunay na atraso ng Sodom? Sa kanyang pag-unlad at pagiging makapangyarihan, nalimutan nyang kalingain ang mga kapuspalad. Huwag nating gawing visible target lagi ang mga sexual sins at maging bulag sa pangangailangan ng kapwa.

Generosity will be rewarded: Give a cup of water, and you will receive a cup of water in return.

Kailanman ay hindi masasayang ang tulong na ibinibigay sa isang nangangailangan. Sayang ba kung magpa-shine ka ng sapatos sa isang naghahanapbuhay na shoe-shine boy kahit malinis na ang sapatos mo? Pagtatapon ba ng pera kung bibigyan mo ang isang minimum-waged waiter ng malaking tip knowing na nakaasa lang ang kanyang anak o asawa kung nagka-tip ito? At sa palagay nyo ba, hindi malulugod ang Dios na nagbibigay tayo nang ganun sa mga maralita, lalo pa nga at pinaghirapan naman nila?

Kung may labandera ka at ang usapan nyo ay P300 a day, tatanggalin mo ba ang lahat ng mga nakakabit na kurtina at mga bedsheets pati mga trapal ng tricycle at jeep para lang talagang masulit ang bayad mo? “Dali, ilabas nyo nang lahat, para sulit na.” Malaking bagay ba kung maagang matapos ang labandera mo for the same rate dahil konti lang ang pinalabhan mo? O kailangan ba talagang hanggang hindi lumulubog ang araw ay hindi siya tumatayo sa labahan? Baligtarin mo. Kung ikaw yung labandera, matutuwa ka bang makitang tatlong bundok ang lalabhan mo for P300? O matutuwa ka ba kung kahit P300 ang usapan, nang matapos kang maglaba ay ginawang P500? Para sa mga nangangailangan, napakalaking bagay ito.

We can be kinder and nicer. Kahit hindi tayo mayaman, maging galante tayo at palabigay kasi hindi ito pagtatapon. Nakikita ng Dios na ito ay napupunta sa mga nangangailangan. At ito ang nais makita ng Dios sa atin–pag-ibig sa kapwa at pagtulong kahit hindi inaasahan at hindi hinihingi.

Philippians 4:6-7

…With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then…God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

The only way that you could win over trouble is by being peaceful, not by being more troublesome because a troublesome attitude begets a troublesome reaction. Hahaba lang nang hahaba ang gulo. Ang pinakamagandang paraan ay payapa, tahimik at matiwasay na pag-uugali. Kapag tayo’y naguguluhan, natatakot, nababagabag, ang kailangan natin ay the peace of God that transcends all understanding. Read another way, this means, “The peace of God tells you to be peaceful when you have all the reasons to be troubled,” “The peace of God tells you to be friendly when the entire environment provokes you to be violent,” “The peace of God makes you do the impossible.” And when you’re doing the impossible, you allow God to work.

Choose serenity. Pray for it. Practice it. When you are provoked, you have two choices: Maging katulad ka nya, o ibahin mo yung approach. Sa palagay nyo, sinong magwawagi? Yung maka-Dios na pamamaraan. Kaya ang sabi ng Panginoon, “Pinupwersa kang maglakad ng one mile? Sabihin mo, ‘Two miles na lang, gusto mo?’ Hinihingi yung jacket mo, sabihin mo, ‘Sando ko, gusto mo rin?’” Kasi pag natanggal nya ang lahat ng gusto nya sa iyo, ano pa ang kukunin nya? Wala na, tahimik na.

“Paano naman yun, e di nawalan ako?” Exactly! Pag pinaandar natin yung sarili nating pangangatwiran, doon lalong gumugulo ang buhay. Kasi kung minsan, sa paggawa mo ng baligtad, dun nagagawa yung dapat mangyari.

These teachings are useful and helpful for everyone. I want you to insist that the people follow them, so that all who have faith in God will be sure to do good deeds.

Doing good gives mystical pleasure. May saya na hindi maipaliwanag ang mga taong tumutulong nang bukal sa loob. May bahagi ng kaluluwang nakikiliti ng pagbibigay. Ito ang saya na hindi mararanasan ng mararamot.

Doing good pleases God who can bless you. Lahat ng blessing na darating sa buhay natin ay sa Dios lang naman puedeng manggaling. Kapag tayo ay gumagawa ng mabuti sa kapwa, natutuwa sa atin ang Dios. Siya ang nagpapala sa atin in return.

Doing good gives the spirit and the conscience pleasure. Minsan mayroon sa atin na tinitikis yung pangangailangan ng kapwa, pero matapos namang gawin, nagi-guilty at binabagabag ng kunsensya dahil hindi naman talaga madamot. Kapag may nangangailangan, huwag nating tikisin yung likas na kabutihan ng loob natin. Kapag gumawa ng mabuti, sumasaya tayo, sumasaya ang natulungan natin, at higit sa lahat ,sumasaya ang Dios.

Doing good gives you a “savings” feeling. Pag tayo ay gumagawa ng mabuti, pakiramdam natin para tayong nagdeposito sa bangko. Kung ano ang itinanim, yun din naman ang aanihin. Kaya hindi lugi ang nag-iimpok ng kabutihan.

Mayroon pang isang maganda. Dahil alam nating lahat tayo ay haharap sa Dios, doing good makes facing God an anticipated pleasure. Pag tadtad ng kabutihan ang buhay mo, hindi ka natatakot humarap sa Dios. Excited ka pa nga, dahil may awarding ceremony. Bakit? Dahil alam nating marunong magbigay ng gantimpala ang Dios.

Work hard at whatever you do. You will soon go to the world of the dead, where no one works or thinks or reasons or knows anything.

Anuman daw ang ginagawa mo ngayon, ibuhos mo na lahat ang kaya mo, pagandahin mo, give your best, kasi pagka namatay ka na, wala ka nang gagawin. E ang tagal-tagal mong patay. So habang may ginagawa ka, magpasalamat ka’t may ginagawa ka. Do, give, and produce your best. Whatever it is.

And do not behave like a prima donna when you become successful or fruitful. Hindi komo mataas na ang ranggo mo, late ka nang darating at pa-star ka na. Ibig sabihin nun hindi mo minamahal yung trabaho mo. Isipin mo, nagpakadalubhasa ka, nagpakahirap, kung anu-ano ang ginawa mo para tumaas ang posisyon mo, at pag nandun ka na, saka mo ilalabas yung mga arte at bisyo mo. This is one major cause of the downfall of many celebrities, artists, and professionals. Hirap na hirap magpa-extra-extra para makilala. Pagka siya na ang bida sa pelikula, dalawang araw nang walang trabaho yung mga extra dahil wala siya sa mood.

Many achievers just become complacent. They become rich and are able to afford drugs, alcohol and all kinds of vices. Then they begin to self-destruct. When they become very successful, they forget to love their work, their craft, and their career. They become negligent, overconfident and unkind just because they could.

Don’t be proud. Lahat ng talent natin hindi naman tayo ang gumawa. Dios lang ang nagbigay. Kung binibigyan ka ng propesyon mo ng kahit konti man lang dangal, lalo mong mahalin ang trabaho mo.
