FAITH THAT EMPOWERS

Matthew 14:28-29

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

Peter not only asked boldly, he also trusted. And because of that, he was able to walk on water. His act displayed the centerpiece of Jesus’ teaching: complete, childlike and active trust in God.  

Ganyan ang thrust ng mga teachings ng Lord. “Do not worry about tomorrow.” “Pray ‘give us this day our daily bread.’” “Do not bring money.” “Come, get into the water and walk.” Jesus teaches us to trust him completely and unquestioningly. When we trust, we are empowered.

In order to become powerful, we don’t have to be rich. We don’t need to be intelligent or educated. We don’t have to occupy a high position in government or in society. When we trust in God, we are powerful. But those who have weak faith should never expect anything from God. Ayaw ng Dios ng mga nagdadalawang-loob, ng mga nagdududa, ng mga urong-sulong.

Gusto ng Panginoon ng panalanging tiyak at hindi sumusuko. Yung kahit alam naman nating wala tayong patago sa Dios, patuloy pa rin tayong humihingi dahil nananalig tayong mapagmahal siya. Gusto ng Panginoon na maging pangahas tayong katulad ni Pedro. Hindi na-offend si Hesus nang hilingin ni Pedrong lumakad sa tubig. Siguro, nasabi nya, “Yan ang pananalig.” Kaya pinalapit nya si Pedro. At alam natin, sa kapangyarihan ng paniniwala, kahit ilang hakbang lamang, nakalakad sa tubig si Pedro.
