Proverbs 18:13

It’s stupid and embarrassing to give an answer before you listen.

Give people the gift of your attention. When you listen well, the speaker likes you. More than that, when you listen well, the speaker also hears himself. Busy siya to prove or defend himself. But if you intently, silently listen, the speaker begins to hear his own voice and realizes his own folly, if he was foolish at that moment.

What is more important is this: The listener benefits more than the speaker. The listener also appears to be intelligent and wise. Meanwhile, there is a danger that the speaker might display his ignorance.

When you always outtalk people, they’ll avoid you like the plague. Let us then learn to listen well. Why? Because people always like to talk; and when you listen, people like you.
