People who don’t take care of their relatives, and especially their own families, have given up their faith. They are worse than someone who doesn’t have faith in the Lord.

Ang kakambal ng kasiyahan ng pagkita ay ang paggasta. Lalo na ng perang pinaghirapan. Spend money that you earned. But a wife might ask, “Wife lang po ako at wala naman po akong hanapbuhay,” at yung asawa naman ay ang yabang-yabang, “Ako ang bumubuhay sa iyo!” No, no, no. By being a good wife, you earn everything that you are entitled to. Ang wife ang security guard sa bahay, caregiver, nurse, cook, labandera, plantsadora, treasurer, at GRO pa ng asawa. Kaya hindi minamaliit ang pagiging housewife. Kung suswelduhan ang mga housewives sa lahat ng kanilang ginagawa sa bahay kulang pa siguro ang kita ng mga husbands. Kung walang nag-aasikaso ng iyong bahay, paano kayo makakapaghanapbuhay?

Retired parents na inaabot-abutan ng kanilang mga anak have also earned it by actually providing for their children when they were young and not capable of making a living yet. Kaya hindi tayo dapat mahiya na binibigyan at ang mga anak ay hindi dapat magkulang sa pagbibigay lalo’t naging mabuti ang inyong mga magulang. Pero may mga magulang naman na kahit walang naisuporta sa anak, sila pa yung ang lakas-lakas ng loob umasa. Kung binibigyan-bigyan, charity na lang siguro ng anak dahil mabuti ang kalooban nya.  

Kaya napakahalaga na habang malakas pa, dapat kumikita. And if later on, you want to be entitled to the support of people around you, be supportive of them when they need your support and when you can.

…But it is only fair for you to share with them when you have so much and they have so little…

Kung blessing na magkaroon ng income at blessing din ang gumastos, what godly, correct and appropriate spending could we be missing on? Baka mayroong maka-Dios na paggastos na hindi natin nagagawa, pagkukulang din iyon.

Halimbawa, maraming waiters, therapists, manikurista at hairdressers ang umaasa lang sa tips dahil ang liliit ng sweldo. Yung labandera mong nakuba na at nagka-TB na sa pakikipag-ulaw sa sabon at bula para may isuot kang malinis na damit araw-araw, hindi mo ba daragdagan ng sweldo kahit na hindi siya nagrereklamo sa konti mong bayad? Tatawaran at kukuriputan mo pa ba yung tindera sa palengke na nauulanan, naaarawan, binabaha at naalikabukan? Are you generous in tipping, donating and sharing? Lahat yan ay part ng spending. Hindi pinanghihinayangan yan kung tama ang pagbibigay, tama ang binibigyan at nasa lugar. Kung minsan ang kuri-kuripot mo sa kapwa, pero panay naman ang bigay mo ng pera sa anak mong adik. Naubos na ang resources mo sa walang kakwenta-kwenta nyang ginagawa. Kapag ipinagdamot ang sobrang pera natin, mayroon tayong kapwa na ninanakawan.

Hindi tayo dapat maging makunat. Kung sumobra man ang naibigay natin, hindi ba sa Dios din galing yung sobra? At kung pakiramdam natin, tayo ay nalamangan at nadaig, tulog ba ang Dios para hindi ibalik kung ano man ang nai-advance natin? Kung nabigyan tayo ng Dios at hindi tayo naging good at spending, giving, tipping, donating or sharing, baka hindi na tayo bigyan ulit. Tanong ni Cain, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Yes! May pananagutan tayo sa kapwa.

You do everything better than anyone else…You are eager to give, and you love us better. Now you must give more generously than anyone else.

Be a giver more than a taker; a benefactor more than a beneficiary. Kung nagbibigay tayo, resist magbunganga, “O kayo, bigay ako nang bigay, yak-yak-yak-yak-yak.” Sa ibang panahon ka na magsalita kasi kadalasan ang natatandaan hindi yung bigay mo kundi yung sumbat mo. Sama ng loob ang kinikimkim ng binigyan mo imbes na pagtanaw ng utang na loob. Want to teach them a lesson? At another time. Kasi baka i-equate nilang requirement ng iyong pagbibigay ang magsermon muna. Negative pa rin ang score mo at the end of the day.  

Yung iba naman magsasabi, “Huwag kang bigay nang bigay. Kailangan marami kang savings o investments.” Pero, napag-iisip ba natin na yung pagbibigay natin sa kapwa could be our best savings? Hindi naman komo nagbayad ka ng insurance, insured ka na pagtanda mo dahil ang daming insurance companies na tumatakbo, di ba?

Maaaring marami kang binibigyan na wala ring utang na loob. Pero malay mo, sa sampu mong tinulungan may isa man lang makaalala sa iyo sa oras ng iyong pangangailangan. Hindi ba magandang savings o investment din yun? At kung wala talagang makaalala, ang Panginoon naman ang makakaalala sa iyo. So mag-save ka nang konti, mag-invest ka nang konti, mamigay ka rin nang konti. Be a solution more than a problem, and you will never run out of affection coming your way.

Deuteronomy 15:11

“There will always be some Israelites who are poor and needy. That’s why I am commanding you to be generous with them.”

Money should be lent or given to the needy. Kailangan marunong tayong magbigay at kung hindi man magbigay, magpahiram na hindi mo naman pinahamak sa laki ng interest yung pinahiram mo na lalo siya tuloy naghirap. Sabi ng Dios, laging marami ang mahirap at laging dadami ang mahirap sa paligid. Hindi naman ito pagtuturo na, sige, pairalin ninyo ang ganyang sistema. This is a recognition of a reality, kaya sabi nya, “Dahil d’yan, kailangang bukas-palad kayo sa mga kapus-palad. Pag mayroon kayong sobra, tanungin ninyo, ‘Kanino kaya ito ipinabibigay ng Dios?’ ”

Kasi magaling magkwenta ang Dios. Bakit sobra-sobra yung napunta sa iyo? Baka hindi para sa iyo yung iba. Naiabot lang sa iyo para iabot mo sa iba. Huwag na nating angkinin. Kailangan marunong tayong makiramdam. At kung tayo’y binibigyan ng Panginoon ng blessing na makapag-shopping ng bagong sapatos, damit atbp, ang pinakamaliit na puede nating gawin ay yung ipamigay natin sa iba ang mga nagamit na natin at medyo luma-luma.

Kung hindi ninyo kayang magpamigay ng bago, pag may dumadating na bago, magbawas naman kayo ng luma at ipamigay nyo sa iba para makinabang din sila. Hindi yung ang dami-dami ng laman ng cabinet ninyo, punung-puno at umaapaw na, inyong-inyo na lang lahat. Kailangan pag may pumapasok, may lalabas para hindi sumikip ang buhay. Matutuwa pa ang Panginoon na bigyan kayo lagi ng pagpapala dahil tuwing pinagpapala nya kayo, maraming pinagpapala rin, hindi kayo lang.

Deuteronomy 8:17

When you become successful, don’t say, “I’m rich, and I’ve earned it all myself.” Instead, remember that the LORD your God gives you the strength to make a living.

Do not develop the habit of asking, borrowing and begging. It’s not God’s style. You ask, beg or borrow only in the few moments of your life when you are too ill, too unfit, or too unfortunate to make a living. Pero dapat paminsan-minsan lang iyon. Hindi prolonged at hindi lifestyle. Marami d’yang mga bayaw, hipag, pinsan o kapatid na mula noong bata ay wala nang ginawa kundi manghingi. Mag-aasawa nang wala sa oras, pati pang-load, pambili ng gatas ng anak at panggastos nilang mag-asawa iaasa pa. ‘Tapos dadami nang dadami ang mga anak, naglalasing at nagda-drugs pa. Kung hindi nanghihingi, ninanakawan pa ang sariling pamilya. Kawawa yung mga nagsisikap pero may anim o pitong kamag-anak na talaga namang pabigat na sinisipsip ang dugo nila.

Kung magtagumpay man, huwag sabihing, “Self-made ako e.” Real success gives credit and glory to God. God gives strength to make a living and to earn. Ang kabaligtaran ng kalakasan ay kahinaan. Kung sa Dios galing ang kalakasan, kanino galing ang weakness? Kailangan pa bang i-memorize yan? Many beggars when blessed by God, became well and stopped begging. Pagka ang isang tao ay namamalimos at laging nanghihingi, hindi yun blessed. Ganun lang kasimple yun. It is a weakness to have to depend on others, a weakness that will make you beg. Huwag tayong makuntentong laging nanghihingi at umaasa kasi hindi blessing yan. Dapat lang na mayroong baliktarin o ibahing timpla sa buhay natin para maging productive.
